| <title> | MySpace Takes Video To Mobile |
| <meta description> | MySpace has partnered with RipCode to give mobile users access to MySpace videos. The content will be available at MySpace's mobile site, m.myspace.com, which currently generates around 3 billion monthly page views from 10 million users. Video will work on the iPhone, T-Mobile G1, BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm devices, among others. All user uploaded videos (meaning videos that a user has uploaded, as opposed to all videos uploaded by all users) and most premium content will be available. The new feature will use RipCode's on demand video transcoding service. Videos are transcoded only when requested, into whatever combination of codecs, bit rates and resolutions an individual handset requires. |

| <title> | MySpace Mobile to get a new look, Palm Pre and S60 support |
| <meta description> | Design standards on the Web are constantly evolving, and the Mobile Web is no exception. We're currently smack-dab in the middle of the Web App age, with users expecting their mobile browser-based services to provide a rich visual experience closer to that of a native application than the ultra lightweight (and generally ugly), text-centric pages of yesteryear. Looking to embrace this change, MySpace will soon debut a new version of its mobile site (m.myspace.com) whilst simultaneously announcing support for S60 and webOS, the platform set to launch with Palm's much-lauded Pre. |

| <title> | Yelp's New And Improved iPhone App Officially Hits The App Store |
| <meta description> | Yelp's version 2.0 of its iPhone app has officially hit Apple's App store. We reported on Yelp's focus on the mobile space and its importance here. As we wrote recently, the new app gives consumers even more ease in automatically reviewing businesses via their iPhone and enhances its existing GPS capabilities. The updated version of the app now lets Yelpers write reviews directly from their iPhone through a Twitter-like -Quick Tips- feature that allows users to create 140 character tips. This was sorely lacking in the original version. The tips will be accessible on the iPhone app and the site itself (if popular) and will also be shown in a feed using GPS capabilities when users search businesses. |

| <title> | Since March, Internet Explorer Lost 11.4 Percent Share To Firefox, Safari, And Chrome |
| <meta description> | The new browser wars on on. More than a decade after Microsoft killed off Netscape with Internet Explorer, competition in the browser market has never been stronger. Just last week, Mozilla released Firefox 3.5, which has now been downloaded nearly 14 million times. Earlier in June, Apple released Safari 4. In March, Microsoft introduced Internet Explorer 8, and Google came out with a speedier beta of its Chrome browser. Some early data is coming in showing relative market share and how fast people are upgrading. If you look at the chart above from Statcounter, it indicates that since March Internet Explorer has lost 11.4 percent market share to other browsers. |

| <title> | eBuddy Finally Gives Birth To iPhone App (And It Has Push Notification) |
| <meta description> | eBuddy, the Dutch startup behind the eponymous mobile communication tool I dubbed the swiss army knife for instant messaging when it debuted an application for the Android platform last May, is announcing one hell of an iPhone application today. For context: eBuddy is a free mobile app that enables users to communicate with others using AIM, Facebook Chat, ICQ, Gtalk, Windows Live Messenger etc. in one, aggregated interface. The application for the iPhone and iPod Touch the company is announcing today has quietly gone live in the App Store last week (iTunes link), but hasn't been promoted in any way since until today. It brings a very strong competitor to the likes of Nimbuzz and fring, both of which have had native iPhone applications for a while now. Where eBuddy differentiates is in its support for Apple's Push Notification Service, which allows a third-party server to ping the service in order to push out notifications to your device over a persistent IP connection. |

| <title> | Shitstorm Averted? AT&T Restores Access To 4chan (Which Is Now Under DDoS Attack) |
| <meta description> | AT&T has made even more people than usual angry when it started blocking/filtering parts of 4chan late last night. The popular message board, famous for being able to brew online (and offline) shitstorms like no other web property could, saw portions of its publication - including /r9k/ and the infamous /b/ - blocked for AT&T customers across the United States. Quickly enough, there was a lot of rallying going on, with 4chan members and fans virtually gathering to plot digital riots and all-round mayhem. An update on the situation as of 8 AM Eastern Time: access to 4chan has apparently been restored, with AT&T reportedly confirming the hours-long block of portions of the site, -following the practices of their policy department.- AT&T went on to say that they contacted (or at least attempted to contact) the owners of 4chan, which Moot vehemently denies. |

Instead, it appears that Google is once again working around Apple to provide customers with some functionality, this time by way of its Google Sync product. |

And there is - but in this case it's a good one: The net proceeds of that $29.99 are being donated to the American Cancer Society. TheBigBundle is a site put together by TrialPay. Basically, they rounded up a bunch of tech companies (and some non-tech ones) and got them to offer some good deals to people who made the donation. So you'll get things like, a free month subscription to Skype Unlimited, 6 months free of TripIt Pro, $25 off Everynote Premium, a $5 coupon to Threadless, 3 months free of Dropbox Pro, $50 off 23andMe, and a bunch of other stuff. |

| <title> | RockYou Hack: From Bad To Worse |
| <meta description> | Earlier today news spread that social application site RockYou had suffered a data breached that resulted in the exposure of over 32 Million user accounts. To compound the severity of the security breach, it was found that RockYou are storing all user account data in plain text in their database, exposing all that information to attackers. RockYou have yet to inform users of the breach, and their blog is eerily silent - but the details of the security breach are going from bad to worse. The first issue is that RockYou attempted to downplay the entire incident, first by covering it up by not notifying users and then downplaying it in an official statement as being an issue that only affected 'older' applications. The hacker responsible for the initial breach published a small portion of the dataset he had retrieved and was able to show that not only did he have access to their entire database, but also passwords were stored in the clear. This matter now appears worse than originally suspected as the dataset also contains a table where RockYou have stored user credentials for social networks and other partner sites. |

| <title> | Craig Barrett Takes On Vivek Wadhwa In The Tech Education Debate |
| <meta description> | Editor's note: The most valuable employees of any technology company are the engineers and scientists, which is why everyone in Silicon Valley does whatever they can to ensure the continuous supply to this talent pool. The size of the talent pool is ultimately determined by the number of people who graduate from colleges and universities with science, technology, engineering, or mathematics degrees. The U.S. is graduating fewer and fewer scientists and engineers, causing concern in many quarters. While many people agree this is a problem, not everyone agrees on what should be done about it. Former Intel chairman and CEO Craig Barrett is a strong proponent of priming the pump with more undergraduate science, engineering, and math students. Duke/UC-Berkeley professor (and regular TechCrunch columnist) Vivek Wadhwa thinks that better rewards for people who pursue engineering and science degrees is the right approach. So we asked Barrett and Wadhwa to debate the issue of how best to fix technology education in the U.S. Their exchange is below: |

| <title> | Pick Up The Realtime Pulse Of Your Website With Chartbeat’s New Beta |
| <meta description> | When betaworks launched chartbeat nearly a year ago, the idea was to create a realtime Google Analytics for Websites. Chartbeat is a dashboard which shows you how many people are on your site right now, where they are coming from, and how engaged they are. Watching realtime stats is even more addictive than Google Analytics because you can put something up on your Website and immediately see the reaction. Today, Chartbeat is releasing an entirely new version in beta. The bland design of the old dashboard is being replaced with much more colorful, easy-to-read charts and graphs which pulsate as the activity on your Website changes. (You can see the new and old versions in the two screenshots at the bottom of this post). Up in the top left is a speed dial showing how many people are on your site this minute, broken down by new and returning visitors. Below that are some engagement dials, which indicate how many visitors are reading, writing comments, or sitting idle on the page. Other widgets show load times, the most popular pages, sources of traffic, geographic distribution of visitors, and Twitter conversations. Along the right side you get a snapshot of where different individual visitors are coming from and what pages they are landing on in a continuously updating stream. |

What that means is that an advertiser buying pay-per-click ads on Google can test the performance of those search ads against pay-per-click ads on Facebook targeted to particular social demographics. Search ads versus social ads, all in one dashboard. According to this sign-up page on Clickable: |

Today, we've confirmed that both men will be stepping down from their executive positions at MySpace. Hadi will be leaving the company entirely to pursue opportunities as an advisor and angel investor (as well as work with tech-related non-profits), while Ali will stay on board as a strategic advisor. iLike cofounder Nat Brown remains at MySpace, where he's head of Mobile. Reached for comment, MySpace gave us this statement: MySpace SVP of Technology Hadi Partovi is stepping down to pursue other opportunities. In addition to continuing his work as an advisor and angel investor to various startups, he will be following his passion for education by working directly with technology focused non-profits. Hadi leaves as a valued friend to the company, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. |

Perhaps unsurprisingly, immediately after the two companies announced their strategic love affair, Nielsen started publishing glowing reports about Facebook and how much time people are spending on social networks. Today, the companies are releasing the first insights from their alliance on the effectiveness of brand advertising on social networks, and lo and behold: the take-away conclusion is that apparently, Facebook ads work well in terms of campaign effectiveness. |

| <title> | Palm Shake-Up Imminent, Rubinstein May Be Out |
| <meta description> | Palm right now is a disaster. Its sales are going nowhere, its market share is plummeting, and try as it might, it can't even find a buyer. Industry sources tell us that a major restructuring and management shakeup is imminent and CEO Jon Rubinstein may be replaced. This is still a rumor at this point, but it makes sense. Palm is suffering from a ton of unsold inventory, and it cannot keep up with Apple, Android, or Blackberry in the smartphone wars. Palm clearly needs to be bought at this point if it is going to survive, and Rubinstein may not be the right person to make that sale. Rubinstein came from Apple, where he was head of hardware. He was recruited by Palm's biggest investor Elevation Partners. Rubinstein is great engineer, but not a great marketer. It appears he is having trouble selling Palm, even as a distressed asset. |

| <title> | Yelp Security Hole Puts Facebook User Data At Risk, Underscores Problems With ‘Instant Personalization’ |
| <meta description> | As if Facebook's Instant Personalization needed another knock against it, tonight comes news of a security issue that makes the feature even more unnerving. -Web security consultant George Deglin discovered an exploit that would allow a malicious site to immediately harvest a Facebook user's name, email, and data shared with 'everyone' on Facebook, with no action required on the user's part. This specific exploit has been patched, and no user data was compromised, but the security problems behind it remain. The exploit took advantage of Cross Site Scripting to inject malicious code into Yelp. Normally such an attack wouldn't have particularly broad implications for Facebook users, but Yelp is, of course, one of the three sites that have been deemed fit for Facebook's highly controversial Instant Personalization feature. |
